Top Pelvic Floor Therapy Clinic for Vaginismus in Denver
Yes, we said it. You won’t find better treatment for vaginismus in Denver. Let us tell you why we confidently say we’re the best.
Vaginismus requires a full body approach, and we treat full body
You may experience difficulty with inserting a tampon, difficulty or pain engaging in intercourse, or even difficulty obtaining a vaginal exam with a speculum at the gynecologist. If this sounds like you, you may have vaginismus. Vaginismus has many causes and factors that can contribute to the ongoing of symptoms - neuro/brain response to sensations & pain, hormones, scar tissue, chronic conditions, trauma history, medical history, societal influences and more. It requires an a whole body, holisitic approach to effectively treat vaginismus.
As Anxious Pelvis, our main therapist is a pelvic floor occupational therapist (OT). This means she is trained to look at the whole body with a biopsychosocial lens. She dives deep into your true goals, values, barriers, and medical history. Gina has taken advanced education courses in pain reprocessing, nervous system regulation, trauma therapy, hormonal impact on vaginal tissues, pelvic rehab, sex counseling, scar tissue and adhesion treatment, treatment of vulvovaginal conditions, and more. As an OT, she is a master at graded exposure and finding the “just right” fit for how to support you throughout treatment. As a certified trauma specialist, she knows how to approach it with a consent forward approach, where we center your nervous system’s safety response.
Truly trauma informed care to support vaginismus
With additional training in mental health as an Occupational Therapist and further continuing education on working with trauma, and years of experience working with trauma in a supportive way, Gina provides care that helps you feel safe and at ease. With the treatment of vaginismus, this is a requirement. The body need to know it can adapt it’s response of muscle guarding and pain response, at a deep subconscious level. Together we work re-programing this brain response with techniques based on your specific needs. We address the musculoskeletal impacts on pain and the neuropathic pain. You are always in control. Together we work on ensuring your body is providing full consent to the process, so that your body can also feel respected and safe. This is essential for healing vaginismus. If you don’t have a truly trauma informed approach to vaginismus, as well as a deep understanding for the brain’s responses, it can be an uphill battle to effectively treat vaginismus.
Sex Counseling Support
Gina is also trained in pelvic sex counseling from the Pelvic Global Academy and is a Certified Sexuality OT. She brings these techniques to help aid in the treatment of vaginismus. Vaginismus can make a big impact on someone’s sex life. She helps support you through navigating intimacy and relationships while healing vaginismus. Additionally, our history, experiences, societal messaging, and beliefs around sex can play a large role in symptom presentation. She brings in methods, in an appropriate and consent based way, to help combat the impact of these factors on the body. Sex therapy may also be recommended. Sex therapy will dive deeper into the past and be more analytical on the impact of trauma and experiences on the body. The sex counseling techniques in your pelvic floor therapy sessions will be more action based activities. Sometimes though we can also package up something that comes up in session that you can then bring to a sex therapist. We help you navigate the language to bring this up, as well as give you resources for trustable providers.
Extended session times with flexible, customized support
Our evaluations being 90 minutes long is very intentional. With that first session, we take thorough time in discussing your symptoms, medical history, primary concerns, personal goals, barriers thus far, and so much more. We also start addressing the nervous system on day 1. What this looks like can be very dependent on the person. On this first session, we are already getting into treatment. Day 1 you are going home with a better understanding of your body and at least 1 tool to continue therapy in between sessions. Follow ups are a full 60 minutes, not 50 minutes, not 55 minutes, 60. Sessions are also never scheduled back to back with other patients. This hour is for you. That shouldn’t feel rushed. If for follow up sessions you think you may want more time, we can discuss alternative session time options that work for you.
We’re dedicated to helping you finally feel hope & relief
Gina gets fired up by the impact of society on our bodies and how much lack of support and dismissal is out there in the healthcare field. Even within pelvic floor therapy, Gina has had patients come to her with previous negative experiences from other pelvic floor therapists. She is passionate about providing care that actually listens to you, treats your body with respect, uses true trauma informed care, and get’s to the bottom of your specific situation. All while holding space for your personal values.
For almost 5 years now, Gina has been refining her skills to treat complex pelvic pain, sexual shame, anxiety, trauma history, and vulvovaginal conditions. Vaginismus has been the primary focus of her care for the past 2-3 years.
She has led numerous women and AFAB people both online and in person from having painful intercourse or unable to insert a tampon, to confidently using dilators, engaging in pleasure, and having successful, comfortable intercourse. We can’t wait to have you be next in reaching your goals with confidence!
