Postpartum Pelvic Floor Therapy
You are a superhuman! Specialized occupational therapy to treat common symptoms that can arise postpartum, comfortably return to movement, navigate new roles and routines, and heal the body postpartum no matter the type of delivery.
Postpartum support in Denver for whole body recovery.
You don’t have to “snap back” after pregnancy. Your body went through a huge transition, let’s support it.
Common Symptoms Postpartum
Remember, these may be common (you’re not alone!), but that doesn’t mean that they’re normal. Pelvic floor therapy addresses and prevents these symptoms:
Urinary Leakage & Other Bladder Concerns
Leaking pee when you laugh, cough, sneeze, exercise, or run to the bathroom?
Stress incontinence and urgency are common, but treatable.
Scar Tissue Restrictions
Whether c-section scar, perineal scar, or other scarring from labor and delivery, pelvic floor therapy can help address these restrictions to reduce secondary pain or dysfunction and reestablish sensations.
Painful Sex
Whether from vaginal dryness due to changes in hormones, scar tissue from delivery, or just the impact of pregnancy and delivery on the pelvic floor muscles, you can experience discomfort or pain during intercourse postpartum. However this does not have to be your norm, and there are solutions.
Heaviness & Prolapse
Do you feel a heaviness or pressure at the pelvic floor? Maybe have seen or felt tissue coming out the vaginal canal. Pelvic floor therapy helps address and reduce symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse or pelvic floor heaviness.
Constipation & Other Bowel Concerns
Constipation, hemorrhoids, bowel urgency, fecal leakage, or other bowel difficulties can all happen postpartum. These are highly responsive to pelvic floor therapy, especially with a holistic approach.
Pelvic Pain
You may experience general pain in the pelvic floor or surrounding areas. You don’t have to experience this pain! Pelvic floor therapy can help holistically address pain concerns.
Core Strength & Function
We assess and address abdominal separation, or Diastasis Recti (DRA), and function of the core muscles, in coordination with the pelvic floor and the rest of the body.
Trauma-informed postpartum care
Everyone has a different experience with labor and delivery. Whether it was a traumatic birthing experience, you have a history of other trauma, or have a general sense of anxiety or unease, we support you with compassionate, trauma-informed care.
Everything is done with your consent.
Nothing is required in pelvic floor therapy, and that includes internal pelvic floor treatment. You will always be given options and your choices will be respected.
Your nervous system is at the center of focus
You should be able to feel comfortable and safe when receiving pelvic floor care (or any healthcare for that matter). We help you feel at ease during sessions and provide you with tools for emotional regulation outside of sessions.
Returning to Sex Postpartum
As mentioned above, there can be increased pain and discomfort during intercourse postpartum.
In addition to possible factors increasing pain, returning to sex and intimacy postpartum can come with other barriers and obstacles. There can be new roles and routines, you may be getting less sleep, you’re still recovering from a major event, you may have low libido, and your sensory system may be on overload.
In occupational therapy, we can address the new roles, new routines, and the sensory overload. With also having additional training in pelvic sex counseling, Gina can guide you through the journey of returning to sex in a way that is comfortable and that works for you and your body.
You deserve a specialized village to support you.
Hi, I’m Gina (she/her), I’m a pelvic floor occupational therapist and owner of The Anxious Pelvis Clinic.
I believe women and birthing people should be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools to feel supported not just through pregnancy, but the entire postpartum journey. My passion is fueled by the mistreatment during pregnancy and postpartum. You should always be listened to and provided with proper healthcare. Anxious Pelvis Clinic is here to actively listen to your concerns, explain what’s going on in the body in tangible ways, help you feel ease through the process, and feel supported through postpartum recovery.
Postpartum comes with new roles, routines, and body experiences, we’re here to support you through that.
My work is informed by occupational science, pain science, trauma-informed practice, embodiment, and a deep respect for the mind–body connection. I value your consent, and as a pelvic floor occupational therapist, I practice from a very holistic lens.
